Venice 12 - 19 January 2026
Not all my travels involve motorcycling…
Some of my adventures in 2026 will centre around photography workshops or involve travelling by means other than motorcycle.
Having decided to return to photography in autumn 2025, I chose to brush up on my camera skills and enrol on a few courses.
As my interest in photography has always been nature, specifically landscapes, it made perfect sense to capture autumn in the Highlands of Scotland. A two-day course really helped rebuild my confidence, and my one-2-one tutor was an excellent choice for getting back into landscape photography. I enjoyed it so much that I’m already considering another two-day course in spring 2026.
My next area of interest is street photography, as it’s commonly known today. I’m drawn to tired, worn-out, slightly knackered places, so where better to start than Venice…
Scheduling this workshop was a little tight, as it’s my big birthday at the beginning of January, and my partner and I, my daughter and her partner, my son and daughter-in-law, and my grandson, will be heading to rural Penrith for a long weekend of fun, laughter, good food, and wine.
As soon as the weekend with the clan is over, I’m heading off the very next day for a week in Venice. I’ll be staying in San Marco and exploring areas such as the Accademia Bridge, Burano, Rialto, and the Jewish Quarter, to name but a few. There should be plenty of opportunities to capture some great images, and it’s a trip I’m really looking forward to.
I’ve never visited Venice, and some might say going in January isn’t ideal. However, as this is a photography workshop, January should be a great time, it’s out of season, so fewer visitors. I’m told it’s pretty chilly at that time of year, so plenty of layering is advisable. One friend also reminded me to take a pair of wellies… apparently it floods….No s**t!
